Soundproofing and acoustic treatment: two different problems
Two things are often confused. Soundproofing (acoustic insulation) stops noise passing from one space to another: the neighbour above, street traffic, music from the bar next door. It is achieved with mass and multi-layer systems — a plasterboard dry lining with mineral wool in the cavity, a decoupled suspended ceiling, or floor treatment — that block the transmission of sound through walls, ceilings and floor slabs. Acoustic treatment is something else: it improves how a room sounds inside, reducing echo and reverberation with absorbent panels. That is what an open-plan office, a noisy restaurant or a meeting room where people struggle to hear each other needs. On many projects we combine both: insulate towards the neighbours and, at the same time, treat the interior so the space is comfortable.

Thermal insulation designed for the island climate
In Gran Canaria the problem is not the cold, it is the heat and the air-conditioning bill. The sun beats down on south- and west-facing roofs and façades, and much of the housing stock was built between 1965 and 1985 with no insulation, so walls and ceilings soak up heat during the day and release it at night. Insulating thermally from the inside — with mineral-wool dry linings under the roof or on the façade — reduces that heat, keeps the home more stable and makes the air conditioning work less and cost less. In holiday lets the effect is twofold: more comfort for guests and a lower electricity bill. The mineral wool we use also provides acoustic insulation, so a single job improves both noise and temperature.

Soundproofing a room starts from around €30/m², depending on the solution (an acoustic dry lining with mineral wool and board, a suspended ceiling or floor treatment) and the level of insulation you need. A standard bedroom is usually finished in a few days. After the survey we provide a fixed, itemised quote. IGIC (Canary Islands tax) is not included.
